Wirtley T. Lipscomb Jr., 87, of Powhatan, went to be with his lord on December 25, 2008. He was preceded in death by his son, Wirtley T., III (Billy); two brothers, James and Evan; two sisters, Martha and Bertha Wade.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris; four sons and their wives, Warren and Evelyn, David and Debbie, Dale and Dawn, Ted and Susan; two sisters, Virginia Lemon and Thelma Whittaker; three brothers and their wives - William & Deanna, Carol & Jennie, Marshall & Clara; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a member and Deacon of Graceland Baptist Church. He served in the Naval Air Force in WWII. He was a member of the Powhatan Masonic Lodge. He retired from People's Life Insurance. He also worked in banking and owned his own dairy and concrete businesses and loved gardening.
The family received friends Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Bennett Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt 60), Powhatan.
Funeral services were held Monday at 11 am in the Graceland Baptist Church, Powhatan. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Graceland Baptist Church or Hospice of Virginia.
